Headshots, services vs. products

What’s the difference between headshots, services and products, plus, all about pricing and that “sitting fee”?

Ultimately, I aim to provide exceptional service throughout the process and deliver a high-quality product that exceeds your expectations and helps you make a lasting impression.

In the past, I used to have “packages” of headshots or portrait sessions that included one or more digital files. Those packages were priced to include the sitting fee and the digital fees together. Those packages also restricted my clients to only have a specific number of digital images with their selection. So, to give my clients the most flexible experience, I decided to split the fees from the products and use the a-la-carte method. This ensures each client can select any number of digitals without a minimum or limit to how many.

The sitting fee is part of services—paid online at booking, not taxable. The digital image(s) purchased is the product—paid at the end of the session, taxed.

As a headshot photographer, I must clarify the distinction between my service and the product you will receive. The service aspect encompasses everything involved in capturing your headshots, including our initial consultation (if requested) to understand your needs and preferences, scheduling and coordinating the photo session, guiding you through the posing and expression process, and creating a comfortable and relaxed environment to bring out your best self in front of the camera. Additionally, my lighting, composition, and post-processing expertise ensures that the final product meets the highest quality standards.

The product refers to the tangible outcome of our collaboration—the professionally edited and retouched headshot images. These images are carefully selected and enhanced to showcase your unique personality, professionalism, and brand identity. The product also extends to any physical prints, digital files, or other formats you receive, ensuring that you have a polished and impactful representation of yourself for professional purposes.
